Does Airbnb Really Protect Hosts? A Real Look at AirCover
Airbnb demand is back in full force, and with more bookings comes more responsibility (and risk) for hosts.
That’s exactly why Airbnb rolled out AirCover, a built-in protection program designed to give hosts more confidence, stronger coverage, and fewer sleepless nights.
At BNB Guardians, we teach hosts that smart Airbnb management isn’t just about pricing and marketing, it’s also about protecting your asset. Let’s break down what AirCover really covers, where it helps, and what hosts still need to do to stay protected.
What Is Airbnb AirCover?
AirCover is Airbnb’s free protection program for hosts, automatically included with every booking.
It replaces Airbnb’s older Host Protection program and significantly expands coverage.
Here’s what AirCover includes:
Up to $3 million in property damage protection
Up to $1 million in liability coverage
Coverage on every stay, at no additional cost
This update came as Airbnb saw a major shift in guest behavior- longer stays, remote workers, and guests essentially living in Airbnbs for weeks or months at a time. More usage means more wear, more risk, and more need for protection.
How Airbnb AirCover Protects Hosts
1. Property Damage Protection
AirCover now protects both the structure and most belongings inside your Airbnb — a major upgrade from the previous policy.
Covered scenarios include:
Guest-caused damage to furniture and appliances
Stained carpets, broken items, and smoke damage
Deep cleaning costs after rule violations
Lost income if repairs force you to cancel upcoming bookings
Pet damage is now included, which makes running a pet-friendly Airbnb far less risky, something we often recommend as part of a strong Airbnb strategy.
What’s not covered: fine art, jewelry, collectibles, cash, or weapons. This is why we always advise hosts to remove valuables and build smart house rules.
2. Liability Coverage
AirCover also includes up to $1 million in liability protection, covering situations like:
Guest injuries on your property
Damage caused by guests to shared or neighboring spaces
Certain legal costs related to guest incidents
While this is a big win, AirCover is not a replacement for dedicated short-term rental insurance. Stack protections, AirCover + STR insurance for true peace of mind.
How to File an Airbnb AirCover Claim
One of the biggest complaints under the old system was slow and confusing claims.
Airbnb improved this process:
Claims are now resolved in 9–11 days
Superhosts receive priority handling
Everything starts in the Airbnb Resolution Center
How it works:
Submit your claim with photos and documentation
Guest has 72 hours to respond or pay
If unresolved, Airbnb steps in under AirCover
This streamlined system makes Airbnb help far more reliable than it used to be — especially for hosts managing multiple listings.
The BNB Guardians Takeaway
AirCover is a huge step forward, but smart hosts don’t rely on it alone.
At BNB Guardians, we help hosts:
Build safer listings with clear rules and systems
Improve Airbnb guest communication to prevent issues early
Pair AirCover with proper STR insurance
Use Guesty to automate operations and reduce human error
Protection is part of Airbnb optimization, not an afterthought.
